In the kitchen with blueberries and figs

First of all, thank you so much everyone, for your encouraging words and condolences on the loss of my cat, Middi. Her absence has definitely left an empty spot in my heart and home. Your kindness is overwhelming.

I had to figure out what to do with the blueberries and figs I have been picking. So, I decided to make refrigerator jam.

Regrettably, it did not thicken enough, so now I have blueberry-fig sauce to pour over pankaces or ice cream. It tastes delishious!

Meanwhile, Gizzy is supervising, watching every move I make:

Next, I baked a fig cake by lining a 9" cake pan with yeast dough and then layering it with halfed figs, like this:

Then, I covered it with Streusel topping:

About 35 minutes later, it was bubbling hot and ready to come out of the oven:

That night, I had coffee and fig cake for dinner (which tasted just like grandma's plum cake)

and cucumber-string bean vegetable salad for dessert

Look who's been chewing on his paws:

Covering his paws with preemie socks seems to help him quit chewing on himself.

Silly boy!

So sorry about Middy. I didn't get to read about her till today. But I left a heartfelt note on that post also.I know it's hard not having her around.
I love figs, mainly right off the tree. Haven't had any lately. But I sure do miss them.

Yum! All of it looks delicious! I'm so sorry about Middi. I know when my little Blackie takes off or is in hiding I do miss him. At least you still have Gizzy, but tell him it's not nice to bite his paws!
Hope you have a wonderful week, and now I need to get off this computer as I heard some thunder a little while ago!
Take Care,
Ulrike

Girl - you are my kind of girl - pie for dinner and cukes and beans and onions for dinner. It looked good to me.

Also what is the recipe or what is the liquid in the beans?

Hope your little one quits biting at his feet.

And again - sorry about your sweet cat.

Hallo Doris,

Stefanie

The food looks fantastic! Wish I could sample! Do the socks help keep your pup from chewing? I'm afraid my dog would simply chew the socks off.

The figs have got me HUNGRY (whether they contain wasps or not!!!).
