Two butterflies enjoying the autumn sun

It's the time of year when the butterflies are fluttering about enjoying the autumn sun on this green, fragrant bush. Does anyone know what it is? I used to think it was a lemon verbena, but it's not - at least it doesn't look like anything I saw on Google Image...but if you brush your hands through the leaves, it smells so much like lemon, I just want to chew on a leaf.

Anyway, this bush was full of butterflies. These two appeared to be mating. The one on the left was fluttering above the one sitting on the flower folded up (right) and would not keep still that I could not get a clear shot as he was constantly in motion.

Does anyone know what they are? They are not Monarchs, nor do they look like the Viceroy (Monarch Imposter) to me according to the photos I have...can anyone tell me, please? They are all over the place every year at this time.

It's going to be hot today!

Moonrise over Lake Irma

Last night was the second time I took Gizzy down to the lake at dusk to watch the full moon rise from behind the trees and see his moonbeams reflecting on the water. It was so beautiful! We're going back tonight. I love to walk home in the dark and see the full moon with the stars above...how romantic - if even just with my dog ;-)

It was such a beautiful and may I say, balmy, evening with a gentle, warm breeze. We were sitting on the park bench looking at the exact view you're seeing here and listening to the crickets and cicadas - AND the birds! They were singing at dusk chirping and whistling, saving their best for last! What a glorious time to be alive!

Autumn leaves Sep. 2010

Some of you wondered if the previous post was a photo from this year, but it was last year towards the end of the autumn season.

This was taken earlier this month, but the landscapers have raked them all away by now. Gizzy and I love to walk over the leaves and hear the crunch. I'd really love to crunch in the snow, but that's not a realistic wish in South Georgia.

Happy Autumn 2010!

The sun-burned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

Enjoy the season!

Please vote! - poll is open till 9/28/10

My crochet team is called Etsy Hookers and periodically we have challenges (or contests.) This theme is called "Keeping Fit" and we had to crochet an item people might use during their favorite exercise routine.

I crocheted these bicycle/driving gloves using maroon, speckled wool blend yarn and added a bee button for closure. I suppose you could use them for lifting weights as well - at least for a little while.

You can vote on my team's blog here: (till next Tuesday)

http://etsyhookers.blogspot.com/2010/09/voting-time.html

Anyone can vote, so please pass this on!

The winner gets no monitary prize, just a little extra exposure and he/she gets to choose the theme for the next challenge.

Thanks and please vote for your favorite choice!

Sitting pretty

My Gizzy boy sitting on the windowsil with the lovely flowers I received from my company on Saturday.

He woke up just long enough to pose and went right back to snoozing by the open window. The weather's getting cooler and we love it!

Happy Monday and have a great week everyone! I'll try to make the rounds and visit you little by little! Thanks for always leaving such nice comments for me and the boy.

Meeting a blogging buddy~!

Visiting
Originally uploaded by Crocheting_in_Georgia
I had company - yeah! I rarely get company (as Gizzy's less than social behaviour indicated (he needs a vest that reads: "Objects appear cuter than they are!") but aside from that, we had a wonderful time. I had more fun than I imagined. My friend from Krafty Max Originals (http://www.kraftymax.blogspot.com/) and her children came to visit me and Gizzy on Saturday.

I was surprised at how comfortable I felt around them and I even said a silly thing before driving (in her car) to Banks Lake "We're coming back here, aren't we?" as if I were going to drive home with them...a senior moment, no doubt!

It was a short, yet fun-packed visit and today, I really miss being able to post properly to show you more photos. I'll just have to post again since I can only post one photo at a time through Flickr.

I was presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers and a package with handmade gifts. I will make another post about that soon..

We all had a picnic lunch at Banks Lake and walked the nature trail there - it was enchanting! I had never been on that trail, so I saw something new as well. On the way back, we drove through town to look at the Murals and the horses while speculating about plans for our next visit.

This was my first time I had the honor of meeting another fellow crafter and blogger and I really enjoyed it more than I can say. We both agreed that the Internet is a wonderful thing!

Who's next? I'm a waitin' - LOL

Velvet Ant or Dasymutilla occidentalis

I watched this velvet ant this morning as I sat outside with Gizzy enjoying the cooler weather, but she moved so quickly, it was difficult for me to capture a better photo. I never saw these until moving to Georgia. They look intimidating to me.

Good News! I sold my Punkin' Mouse already, so I'll be working on another.

I have to go to the eye doctor (again) this afternoon. I started seeing tiny, black, floating dots on my right eye only, and it feels like there's something in it scraping against my eye lid.

Arlene, my friend who makes wooden Treasure Chests (here: http://www.NauticalTreasures.Etsy.com) is picking me up at 11 am so that we can grab lunch on the way. We both love Mexican food, but we'll have to settle for a 7-Layer burrito from Taco Bell as we will be on a time constraint.

Lastly, a quick note to my blogging buddies: I appreciate and remember all of you. Just because I can't comment every day anymore, doesn't mean I have written you off.

It's been extremely difficult for me to negotiate through my blogging world due to all sorts of programming difficulties. I'm doing the best that I can for the moment. But trust me when I say that you are in my thoughts. I have got a memory like an elephant!

Crocheted Punkin' Mouse

Here's another pumpkin critter that I seem to be addicted to making lately. This mouse is also 7" tall, but a lot fatter around the middle than the Punkin' Gizzy, because I stabilized her with additional popcorn kernels aside from the fiber fill. I knitted a long tail for her and attached it to the front. I think she turned out very cute too, if I may say so myself. Sometimes I surprise myself, especially since I didn't use a pattern for her either.

You can click on the photo that takes you to my Flickr account where I have pictures of her from different angles. I'm going to list her for sale in my shop, but Etsy's having issues right now so that I'll have to do it tomorrow.

It's almost Fall and you guys would not believe how nice and cool it was this morning. Gizzy and I had a very long and enjoyable walk. I could tell my boy was in a very good mood. I can't wait for it to get really chily ;-) Maybe I should do a jolly snowman to put me in the mood.

We will never forget!

Tomorrow is September 11th - let us pray!

My blogging buddy, Kerrie, has written a poem in honour of 9-11. Anyone who is interested in reading it, you can find it here:

Today I put some Aloe Vera gel (slime) on Gizzy's back. I scraped it off from my plant outside, because his skin is still looking a bit pink and inflamed. He also still coughs periodically, but then so do I. We'll just have to face it that both of us are plagued with allergies now.

I was told when I first moved here by my doctor that Georgia and Louisiana are the two worst states to live in for allergies and that a lot of people have to move away from here - I think I might be one of them because I can't imagine doing this coughing thing for the rest of my life... but, one step at a time! Soon the weather will change and we can get a break for a couple of months. That will be nice to be able to breathe again!

TGIF tomorrow! Soon I'll have something to show you as I have been crocheting up a storm.

We almost made it to the Fair

This is Gizzy in his patrioitc Babuschka...I was just goofing around with him because he's so gosh darn cute! He got that scarf at the Honey Bee Festival last year.

I purposely waited till later in the afternoon, hoping it would be not as hot so that I could take Gizzy to the Flatlanders Arts and Craft's Fair, but we only made it taout half way there and had to stop at Roquemore Park because it was so hot and stuffy and the gnats were driving us crazy...Gizzy was panting and yes, I had plenty of water for us to drink. I even had a spray bottle full of water so that I could spritz him, ok, soak him, really well.

He was so excited at the prospect of seeing people. When I pushed him through town, he could barely sit still and kept fidgeting so that he slid off the rollator seat a couple of times - silly dog. He reminded me of a little kid wiggling in anticipation, but alas, we never made it all the way there because it was too hot and I found out that there were no dogs allowed, so we just turned around and went back home, past the lake, past the duckies who were quacking and running towards everyone they saw.

At the end we got a ride home from a friend in his pick up truck because he saw that we were tired and needed to be back in the air conditioned apartment.

When we got home, I cooked Gizzy a consolation hamburger in the broiler and now he's sleeping contentedly. Soon enough it'll be cold again so that we can spend a lot more time outside. I can feel the season changing. It won't be long before we'll be having turkey dinners and practicing our Christmas carols.

Thursday, September 2, 2010

Hello my friends

That's what Gizzy saw down at the lake yesterday morning. He's such a stinker - he barks at those poor ducks who come running up to me knowing they'll get some food.

Just to let you all know, I can't get into blogger at all, meaning I cannot read your comments. I can't get into google to read my g-mail and things are kind of messed up, so please, I am not ignoring you and I will keep on posting via Flickr to let you know we're still alive. If you want to e-mal me, please, be my guest and I will come and visit you when/if I can.

Meanwhile, we're being slammed very hard financially - but then, so are a lot of people. Let's just pray for one another and keep the faith.

Love you,
Doris and Gizzy :-)
