Breakfast at the Park and a quick trip to Bank's Lake

This morning I had some packages to mail. Since I was early, because our post office doesn't open till 9 am, I decided to take Gizzy to "his" favorite (our only) drive through in town for breakfast. I stopped at Roquemore Park so we could enjoy eating outside on a park bench.

(I smell bacon!)

(I don't mind if I do - you can have the coffee mommy!)

Since I've not been at Bank's Lake for a while, I decided to pop over to see if my friend Sandy was at the Outpost this morning - and she was!

Gizzy and I walked out onto the pier to investigate the croaking sound that Sandy assured me was a bullfrog and not an alligator.

The water lilies were blooming profusely, perfuming the air with their lovely scent.

But, after all is said and done, that's what Gizzy thinks of being on the pier:

(I think he knows that dog is alligator's favorite food.)

Right before we went back in the car to drive to the post office, I saw one of my friends, the lovely dragonfly who helps me by eating my arch enemies: the mosquitoes!

Addendum: My friend Sandy commented on this post and I wanted to add it in here, because she's a Wildlife Expert and very knowledgeable about alligoators as she runs the Outpost and deals with Federal wildlife agents frequently. Since not everyone subscribes to the comments feed, this is valuable information for those of you afraid of alligators:

The alligators don't bother people as a rule....we have never had a problem at Banks Lake, Lake Alapaha or the river with them. People swim in Lake Alapaha and the river daily and there are plenty of gators in both. They have a bad rep but they are totally different then the crocs, but Gizzy has the right idea Doris. They do love doggy snacks as you know.

Baby alligators do "chirp" and can sound like a frog but the pitch is different, and rarely do you hear the others, except during mating season, then they bellow. When angry they usually hiss.

Oh wow! I love it when you post pictures of the area surrounding where you live. It's the closest I'll get to being there so keep it up, okay?

What a perfect morning breakfast and wander Doris! I bet Gizzy had a special time (except on the pier!).
I actually thought that crocodiles and perhaps alligators too make a croaking type noise. I think Gizzy is wise to have not stayed on the pier!
and I finally took up crochet so I shall be able to make my own swan sometime. My first attempt was a Barbie sized scarf and a Salvador Dali rendition of a four petal flower (mine had 6 petals)!
It was fun!

Ohhh I love waterlilies! I remember as a kid, always wanting to see one, thinking they seemed so exotic. I don't think I ever saw one in real life (other than at a botanic garden, I mean, growing wild) until about 3 years ago!

The area where you live looks so beautiful- makes me miss being in the south!

(answer to your question)

Sorry you are so confused!

The clue was - no one has guessed the name yet.
As in BEFORE TODAY.
Because if you just guessed those 2names (coal & char) then those 2 could be it - but another blogger wouldn't guess them since I said before today.

Though it still might not make since - that's what I was "trying" to say. I didn't want people to not guess a name that another blogger did today (because no names were guessed today, before I did this "clue" post).

But as long as you guess 2 names - you are good!

Come back to Banks Lake National Wildlife Refuge soon Doris, you were missed. Hopefully next time you will have more time to talk. Maybe in late August, early September when the eggs hatch, I can show you the difference in the sounds..

Once the yellow flies have passed, you can take some pics on the "new boardwalked" walking trail. Only one part is boardwalked so far but it is the part that borders on the swampy area so you don't sink in the mud. Hopefully the rest will be done as soon as funds are available.

These are beautiful photos!! I must say, I love the look of nature around here - it's so mysterious. And we've canoed with the alligators and they never bothered us once. I would be careful with such a sweet little dog though... Gizzy looked delighted with his breakfast!! Love, Silke

Gizzy does look like he is enjoying that brekkie. I don't blame him going the opposite way to the Alligators...we don't have alligators here in Australia, up north we have crocodiles and they bite! I'm with Gizzy...better safe than sorry. Lovely pictures in your park, such a nice place to spend a morning.
