Amigurumi Bee Scrubbie

I crocheted my first bee shaped amigurumi scrubbie last night. Again, I used 100% cotton in buttercup and beige (around a nylon pot scourer.) I had no brown or black that I will have to buy the next time I'm in the city. Meanwhile, I'll just use what I have on hand.

Across the street, they're cutting down more trees this morning, because the geniuses who ran this apartment complex are obviously oblivious to the health benefits and energy saving qualities of trees.

The butchers (ahem) gardeners who zoom through here every now and then to mow the lawn and hack the trees and bushes have come through last week to trim our bushes/hedges... again. They've managed to decapitate nearly all the budding gardenias that were on the cusp of breaking open. I also noticed with great sadness that the huge gardenia bushes down by the lake where chopped to the ground. There were clusters of five or six big bushes around two trees (not bothering anyone - out in the open - not interfering with anything) and someone's got it in their head that the gardenias needed to go. I fail to understand ... it must be me.

These photos are from last year (June 9, 2009) when the gardenia bushes were blooming and I always took a few home to enjoy the scent. Weren't they beautiful?

(Now I can look at the photos and imagine!)
My flower bouquet from Betty with the magnolia blossom has held up quite well. I'm surprised because normally a magnolia blossom doesn't last very long. This one has closed up in the shape of a giant tulip, look:
... and now I'm taking my swollen, insect bitten face and my itchy dog to my friend's to collect some well water that I didn't get yesterday and maybe try to cheer up a little. Thanks for all your kind comments yesterday. I really appreciate you guys!

How adorable your little bee scrubbie is! I love it! As were your little chick scrubbies!

I was just reading your post from last evening...my goodness you are having a time of it Doris...I do hope today is better for you!

I so understand your sadness over the trees and shrubs...all living things really...not but a few weeks ago where I live the neighbors got it in their heads to lop off the tops of all the Standing Evergreens that bordered the yards...they were on my side of the fence..but he got a bug in his butt and called the Landlord and told him he was tired of the critters living in the trees and got his permission to chop them off half way down. Now it is just an eyesore...he did a horrible job and I told him so! The man really thinks they will grow back. Some just don't get the sanctity of Mother Earth.

Hope you mosquito bites go down today and that you've had a good cry to release all the angst...tears are cleansing for the soul Dear One and I get that way too now and again.

Sending Love and Peace to You! Hope it cools off for you too!

Hi Doris! Oh, I think this little bee is the CUTEST of them all!!! Absolutley ADORABLE!.. So sorry to hear about the thoughtless monsters who are ruining the beauty that they are too ignorant to appreciate.. So sad, I'm sure. My only suggestion... Go throw some seeds right where they committed their vicious deeds, and smile!! ((hugs)) ~tina

Liebe Doris, your little bee is adorable!! I love the wings and feelers...

And how sad about the trees and gardenia bushes. I have often thought that about people who do landscape services here - most of them don't understand anything about plants or have an aesthetic sense. They just want to chop everything so it looks "clean" and straight.

All I can tell you is to try to look elsewhere until you find beauty again and take your eyes off the lacking trees and gardenias. Look at your sweet Gizzy boy!

Love, Silke

I bet some dumbass complained that the gardenias were "too smelly" and that was that. Ugh! Sometimes I hate people!

Did I ever tell you about this random woman who was taking a walk with her husband and on their walk, she was carrying these huge hedge clippers. My dad lives at the end of this road and I lived next door. I happened to look outside one day and saw her hacking away at bushes in front of his house! I was furious!

I ran outside and yelled at her and her husband looked all embarrassed but she just kept on hacking! So I charged at her (wondering how close I had to get to make her stop) and finally she said "I'm just cutting some bushes." I yelled that they aren't hers and MAYBE HE LIKES THEM THAT WAY, DID YOU EVER THINK OF THAT? of course she just mumbled and walked away.

Later when my dad got home I told him and he walked over to their house and confronted her!! He asked if it would be okay if he brought some clippers with him and hacked down some of her plants that he didn't like.

What is wrong with people!

Your little bee is adorable. Nice job. Wow, can't understand why someone would want to remove such beauty. So many don't appreciate what nature has, its equally sad that people cannot appreciate this. Sending hugs and blessings to cheer hopefully cheer you.

Oh my god that bee!! Honestly D, I'm gonna have to stop coming to your site b/c I want to buy everything you make!!

Angel bee -- those sound perfect!

I am so sorry about the butchering -- one of the reasons we have retreated to the country. It's too bad they didn't let anyone dig up what they wanted of the shrubs etc. I got to a house right before they dozed it and made off with some bulbs i have yet to find at a nursery- they are vintage iris type bloomers I can't think of the name for, and they spread...feel better...

I can't believe they are cutting down all of those trees! Not only does it keep homes cool, but also protects them too from having the roof dry out. I have gardenias like the ones they cut down, actually I have some rooted too.
I do love roses Doris, and all sorts of flowers, but cropping the photos makes them look better!!!
Hope your welts are doing better, and that you have a wonderful rest of the week!!
Liebe grusse,
Ulrike

Love that little bee scrubbie. A good friend of mine is a beekeeper and gives us the best honey ever. I think I'll need to have a few of these made to give in exchange. Great job! Sorry about the tree-cutting. The ignorance of some people is certainly hard to turn a cheek to.
