Gizzy's Health Status Update!

Just a quick note about Gizzy's Vet visit this morning:

For the first time - ever - he was trembling in the examining room. He's never done that before, but I think he remembers the traumatic dental when they yanked five of his teeth out and cauterized a mole .... it took him nearly  three weeks to get back to normal.

But, today, I didn't have to leave him. The Vet took his chest x-ray (again without sedation) and it showed that his heart has not enlarged any more since he was put on medication (about four months ago) meaning the medicine is working! Congestive heart failure is irreversible, but with proper treatment Gizzy can live a good, long life. That was the good news.

Bad news is that he needs surgery next month to remove two lumps (small ones) and cauterize another black mole...so, he'll have to be anesthetized again. I will ask the Vet for a little sedative (like a Valium) to give him when I drop him off. He doesn't need to be shaking and scared out of his mind sitting in that holding cell at the Vet's - that can't be good for his ticker, but that's next month...this month we are fine!

Thanks everyone for thinking of us. We appreciate your good thoughts and prayers, right Gizzy?

Right, mommy! We are blessed!

I'm so glad to hear his good news! I'm sorry about the lumps etc. next month, but hopefully it's a relatively routine thing and he'll be back to himself in no time after the surgery.

My kitty has a vet apppointment tomorrow, just her yearly thing and everything seems fine- so hopefully they won't find anything during the exam. She is going to be 19 this year! She's almost old enough to drink ;)

Poor Gizzy, no fun having to go to the vet for more surgery. We hope those lumps are not serious, but best to have them taken care of. We love you, Gizzy.

I'm glad that you did get a good report about Gizzy's heart! I've never heard of black moles on dogs before. Are they potentially cancerous or would he be fine if you left it there?

Hugs,
Angela

Oh je, ich hoffe es geht deinem Baby bald besser.
Man leidet immer so schrecklich mit, wenn es den kleinen schlecht geht.

That is great news what would we do without our fur babies. I would be lost without my two. Blessings and hugs to you and Gizzy.

Oh that face, Doris is so precious! I know what you're going through about the anesthetizing...I had to do it with my Kiera...she was so scared and for the x-rays too...I though her eyes were going to pop out of their sockets and her heart come right through her chest...it wasn't pretty! I agree...ask that they give him a sedative when he gets there..no don't ask...insist on it!...:)JP

I'm so happy to hear Gizzy's doing so well-and if it's any encouragement my husband has lived with an enlarged heat from congestive heart failure for over 15 years, and that's without taking as good care of himself as he should have!

xxooxx to you and {{hugs}} for the trip to the vet next month. keep smiling, you're in my prayers.
