Velvet Ant or Dasymutilla occidentalis

I watched this velvet ant this morning as I sat outside with Gizzy enjoying the cooler weather, but she moved so quickly, it was difficult for me to capture a better photo. I never saw these until moving to Georgia. They look intimidating to me.

Good News! I sold my Punkin' Mouse already, so I'll be working on another.

I have to go to the eye doctor (again) this afternoon. I started seeing tiny, black, floating dots on my right eye only, and it feels like there's something in it scraping against my eye lid.

Arlene, my friend who makes wooden Treasure Chests (here: http://www.NauticalTreasures.Etsy.com) is picking me up at 11 am so that we can grab lunch on the way. We both love Mexican food, but we'll have to settle for a 7-Layer burrito from Taco Bell as we will be on a time constraint.

Lastly, a quick note to my blogging buddies: I appreciate and remember all of you. Just because I can't comment every day anymore, doesn't mean I have written you off.

It's been extremely difficult for me to negotiate through my blogging world due to all sorts of programming difficulties. I'm doing the best that I can for the moment. But trust me when I say that you are in my thoughts. I have got a memory like an elephant!

Today it's our turn to be thinking of you - good thing to see the eye doctor. Sounds like a bunch of floaters, but best to be sure. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

We understand about the comments, seems like a lot of friends are having blogger issues.

I see that you have been having problems, this post is on here twice! Some of my comments come in twice, and I get Service Unavailable, all kinds of things are going on! This ant gives me the creeps, do they bite? Do you get them in your house? I'm getting ready to do a post on how ants are actually beneficial to have in your house, no kidding! I read it in the paper! Let me know how your eye appointment came out, we do seem to get more and more floaters as we get older, perhaps that's all that it is. But very good to have it checked. I will be thinking of you today.

Doris I was stung by a velvet ant a few years ago, one of the most painful things EVER! But they are so beautiful (I even drew one in my 30 bugs in 30 days). It's the only time I ever saw one in person, but it was so beautiful.
Congrats on your recent sale!
I can understand your lack of internet communication, I've been having issues lately myself.

See, I told you that little mouse would sell quickly! It's just adorable!

I don't know if I've ever seen a velvet ant or not. The first year I moved into my house, I had them but they all seem to have disappeared by the following year.

No worries about not commenting every day. If I had a job, I wouldn't be able to. I do it probably more to keep my mind off not having a job than anything else. Plus I really enjoy it. Will miss it when I finally find a job.

Hope all went well with the eye doctor. I'm not surprised that your little mouse sold so quickly, such a cutie! Don't worry about the commenting, knowing you're out there is all we need, you just take good care of you and Gizzy.

I hate for you to be having computer pbls, Doris. You are surely an inspiration and joy to behold for so many of us in blogland. And, reports on Gizzy are needed. lol Yes, Hubby wants a home for the boys to have all their buddies over with a gameroom and pool. We'll see. Tax changes should be stopping us, huh.

What a strange looking ant We don't have those up here in New England.

I hope things go well at your eye appointment. Enjoy your Mexican food.

I certainly hope that this isn't the little monster that bit me nine times on the upper leg. It was either an ant(s) or spider. Insane!
Blogger issues, mainly with uploading photos, yes, the "service unavailable." grr.
I hope the eye appointment goes well!

The ant sure is poisonous looking! The "Fall Y'all" saying is one that is common here in SC and I thought it was a fun one, too! Luv to you and the Gizzy ♥
