Poetry Challenge Give-away!

I decided to have a Poetry Challenge and give the winner a gift from my shop! After you read my poem, you'll know that I'm not a pro, but I'm passionate about the subject of my rhyme, which is my pet pekingese dog, Gizzy. Please note that this is not an entry, just my way of getting you inspired: My Boy, Gizzy! Some like it hot… My boy does not! His coat is dense and furry He sleeps a lot, but don’t you worry he’s soon charged and ready to play Tug-o-war is his game and Miss Piggy‘s the prey. He gives you a run for your money. Watch out, honey, he’s very funny! Only you fellas beware Don’t you walk through that door lest you dare getting your pant legs pulled from here to there…I know it’s not fair! I tell him, he’s the only boy for me. He’s one of a kind, rare and unique, a very special Peke. There’ll never be another Gizzy No, Siree! Here are the simple 1-2-3 RULES: 1) Compose your own, original poem containing anywhere from 4 to 26 lines about a subject you feel passionate about (to make this fair, only one poem per person or under the same name) 2) Submit your poem in the comments section (here) in this blog 3) Deadline to enter is June 16th, 2009! (my Birthday) After all entries have been received, I will ask people to vote. I will post a link on Twitter, Flickr, Squidoo, BLIP, the Etsy Community and my two Etsy teams, namely the Etsy Hookers Street team and the Etsy Honey Bee Helpers team, plus all my family and friends in my address books in my e-mails. I'll also see if I can solicit some votes from my Yahoo groups! The person with the highest number of votes will win the contest. If it's a tie, we'll draw a number! Winner will be announced on the following weekend, June 23rd, 2009. NOTE: If only one person enters, then that person gets the prize! The winner can chose from one of the following: * An item (or items) from my existing inventory in my Etsy shop for a combined total of $15 or less with FREE standard shipping. If your selected item(s) total less than $15, then that's your prize. * or a $15 credit towards any item over $15 so that you will pay the difference and I will pay the standard shipping. * or a $15 Gift Certificate (with free standard shipping) for you to use as you will, including transferring it to another person, in which case I will need the details from you, please! (If for some reason, I end up having to close my Etsy shop, all bets are off and I will not honor the gift certificate.) My shop on Etsy is: Honey Bee Crochet by SturmDM I used to have another shop that was called: 365 Days of Christmas but I had to close that one because apparently someone has trade marketed that name for her business back in 1999. Here is the convo I received: by mrsclaus365days profile shop contact Listing: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26544977 Dear Friend, I found your site on Esty, and your work is lovely. Unfortunately, I trade marked the name 365 Days of Christmas back in 1999, so you will have to change your name on this site. Please contact me back. Thanks, Barbara Jancovic www.365daysofchristmas.com Good luck and let the creative juices flow!

This is such a great contest idea! Interactive, creative, and fun! Kudos to you being SO generous, and for having so many ideas of where and how to submit it.

Thank you, my friend, and I'm counting on YOU to enter also. I do appreciate you because you're one of the few people I can count on.

Thanks for being you. You inspire me. You're doing so much and I love your blog, Samantha!

I'm more of a haiku writer than anything else, but...

I have an orange kitten;
he's smart and soft and sweet.
His tail curls round and warms his toes
his fur is kept quite neat.

At times he nibbles 'pon my toes;
at times he bumps my head.
At times he purrs and purrs and purrs,
at times he swats instead.

But do not think this cat so soft
is pure and innocent;
emerges from his butt at times
a most amazing scent.

But kitten mine, I love him so
'spite all his stink and claws;
the sweetest child the world has known
holds my heart in his paws.

*whew* I think that's the longest poem I've written since high school!

I'm a crochet-er too, so really it's about the poetry. You can see more of my poems on my blog: mommygalloway.blogspot.com
But here's my entry...

CROCHET--

My son watches me
intent
In his eyes it looks like fun
that shiny, metallic blue hook
Round and round
he watches the ball of yarn bounce
He reaches for it and is startled
when I pull from it
making it jerk and spin
Laughter from the depths of
his precious soul
Dare he touch it?
When I lay it across the chair
to take a well deserved break
I watch
as he gently picks up the hook
then the yarn
And with all seriousness
and concentration
he twists that hook 'round about
flipping the yarn
Giddy with excitement
he squeals
And I squeal
Crochet

LIKE SEEDS THAT EVOLVE INTO TREES
THE MOMENTS WE SHARE TODAY
ARE TOMORROWS LESSONS

YOUR WISDOM WASHING OVER ME
SUBDUING ME WITH A CALMNESS
THAT I HAVE NEVER KNOWN

SHOWING ME THE RAINBOW
THAT IS WITHIN EACH OF US
AND THE TRUTH THAT LIES WITHIN ALL

THE PICTURE THAT I HAD CREATED OF LOVE
WIPED CLEAN
REPLACED NOW WITH WARM INTIMATE COLORS
THAT LIKE YOU
WILL CONTINUE TO TOUCH ME
LONG AFTER THE PICTURE FADES

GUIDING ME FROM AFAR
AND HELPING ME TO GROW
THE DEPTH OF MY LOVE FOR YOU
YOU WILL NEVER KNOW

FOR THE MILES WILL SOON BE BETWEEN US
AND I’LL HAVE TO LET YOU GO
AND ALTHOUGH A LESSON WILL HAVE BEEN LEARNED
IN MY HEART, I’LL STILL BE LOVING YOU SO

Okay, it's been a long time, but here I go!...

For so long I have wanted, waited
to fill that empty feeling.
They say, "you're too old, too busy" and so I just grin
But still that empty feeling burns within.
I have raised 3 fine young children with much joy
But yet I want another baby girl or baby boy.
Here in my heart, I know it's time to move on and do the things I didn't do before.
I gave up on the thought of a new bundle of joy to fill the empty nest
Now, to my suprise, we're having a blessed little guest!
My first grandbaby is on it's way
Into my heart on that upcoming, most special day!

It's not great, but, it was from the heart... Hope you enjoy.

P.S. Love your poem, Doris, as well as, all the entrants. Thanks for the contest. It was fun!

THANK YOU SO MUCH everyone for the entries so far. You guys are so talented, I may have to up the stakes;-)

I love all your poems. I hope it goes without saying (and I'm sorry I feel that I even have to mention this) but I only want to see one poem per person (or per email address) because we want to keep this fair. So, if you have another person in your household who wants to enter, please ask them to log in under a different user ID so that it doesn't show up all under the same name or I will not post it...also keep it 26 lines or less, please!
Thanks again, you are all FANTASTIC?

Hey Doris! I'm not much of a poet. I wrote this one years ago (like 20). Does it count as an entry?

A tree is like me
It grows all year long
It sings a sweet song as its branches sway in the wind.

A tree hasn't one friend
It sits all alone
at the edge of a brook or in a meadow
Staring at its long dark shadow.

Awwww, what a sweet poem, BeneficialBee...it almost made me cry. OF COURSE, it counts! I love it!

Thanks for entering.

A short poem (that won't win but I'm submitting it because it's all I have, hehe!):

Buzz, buzz, honey bee
flying in the sky,
give me kisses when you fly by.
