Bee's Knees Cocktail
From Chef Ricardo Zárate (makes 1 drink)
Bee's Knees Cocktail

  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 jigger gin
  • 1 Tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice

Note: The orange juice is optional. Bars in Los Angeles and New York that serve the Bee’s Knees omit it.

Combine all the ingredients and shake well with ice. Strain into a glass.

Note: When made as directed, the honey often forms into a giant ball in the middle of the shaker. To avoid this, combine three parts honey to one part hot water and stir together until completely mixed, then continue with the recipe.

Honey Mint Juleps
(makes 14 servings)

  • 1 cup water
  • 1-1/2 cups mint leaves
  • 1 cup honey
  • 3-1/2 cups bourbon
  • Crushed ice
  • Mint sprigs, for garnish
In small saucepan, bring water to a boil. Remove from heat. Add mint leaves; stir until wilted. Add honey; stir until dissolved. Let mixture stand until cool; strain and discard mint. For each julep, combine 1/4 cup bourbon with 2 Tbsp. honey mint syrup. Pour bourbon mixture over crushed ice in frosted tumbler or tall glass. Garnish with mint sprigs.

Mandarin Blossom(makes 1 beverage)
Mandarin Blossom

  • 1 oz. Honey Simple Syrup
  • 3 oz. fresh sour
  • 1-1/2 oz. Absolut mandarin
  • 2 Tablespoons egg white, for froth

Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a cinnamon-sugar rimmed martini glass. Garnish with an orange twist. Cinnamon sugar is a blend of super fine sugar and just enough cinnamon to give a light brown color.

Honey Simple Syrup: Mix 4 parts honey to 1 part hot water in a store n pour*. *Or alternatively use a covered container that is convenient to pour from.

I hope you'll try one of these and if you don't like honey, it would probably work with corn syrup. I may be off line for a couple of days. We're having a big Apartment Inspection coming up tomorrow and Friday and that always wears me out!
Have a great week!

Hi Doris! The Mandarin Blossom is sounding pretty good to me!.. I like honey.. LOVE it in my tea. But I tend to back away lately when I see the price sticker. When you're trying to keep your weekly budget down, every little bit adds up and counts. I'll have to keep my eye open for sales... That or just splurge one of these days, right?! Hope you and Gizzy are keeping cool. The heat has been miserable here, the last couple of days, but I hear we're dropping down to 60s tomorrow! Hooray!!! I'm gonna bake and bake and bake while I have the opportunity to! ~tina

These recipes look absolutely delicious! Right now I'm enjoying a hot drink, Lemon Balm and Honey tea, laced with Apple Cider Vinegar and a little extra honey.

I'm not a big fan of honey but these recipes all sound delightful! Maybe because they all contain alcohol? lol

I think they all sound very good. I could go for one of those bees knees right now :)

So funny seeing all of these refreshers made from honey as we are spinning the last of our honey tonight which is why I'm up late blogging! So far we have 10 1/2pint cases of honey! I'll definitely be trying one of these recipes with all of this heat going on. Stay cool!

I dont really like honey but have lots of mint in my gardenso might well try that one. thanks for leaving a comment on my page about the horse fly bite. It's still very red and hot but not as swollen. A lady in the chemist shop today told me to try putting vinegar on it to stop the irritation that's started today. Yes thank goodness I can still crochet!!!I had quite a few of these last year and they just seem to get me on a certain walk so I will beavoiding that for a while. Love your little dog!!! xx
ps do you have a recipe for a mint julep??? I'm sure that is an American drink. Are you anywhere near Stone Mountain GA? I've been there and loved it, also Savannah, oh boy that was lovely too. xx

Liebe Doris,

Marion
