Gizzy back from the Vet's

Hello, this is me, Gizzy, and I had a chest X-ray this morning to see my heart. The Vet showed the picture to mommy and told her that I had the early stages of congestive heart failure. The Vet prescribed Enalapril for me twice daily. Mommy got these Pill Pockets and hides them inside so that I can eat them without even knowing that it's medicine. It works! It's not bad enough yet for me to require a special diet (i.e. R/D) but I will have to be monitored. Although this condition is irreversible, it can be controlled with proper medication and that's why we're going back in three months for another chest X-ray to check on my progress. It didn't hurt at all!

Mommy said I was a really good boy because they didn't have to sedate me or anything, but I'm happy to be home again!

Oh Gizzy, I'm so sorry to hear you had to have an xray but what a good doggy you are. I bet mommy was so proud of you. Now don't forget to take your medicine. (Those pill pockets are pretty clever, aren't they?)

So sorry little Gizzy about your little heart. Very much hope the medication will make you feel better and help you. You are such a trooper!

Doris, sorry about Gizzy having such troubles. From personal experience I know how that feels. We do so love our little critters. They bring such joy to our lives, entertain us and make us laugh. Can't imagine life without them in it.

Hope everything else is going well with you. Also wanted to say, Thanks for being such a good friend to me. You are one of a Kind!!

Talk to you soon....Erika

Well, Gizzy, I am so sorry to hear this! Have you been showing any symptoms? But from what I know about this in humans, it can continue to be mild for years and years. You were such a good boy at the vet's!!! I hope mommy gave you a big reward!! You are a very photogenic doggie, and I just love looking at your latest pictures! I have never heard of these pill pockets, are they like a treat that you put the pill in? How clever!! I'm wondering if they have them for cats? Then again, cats are much more finiky eaters than dogs. Gizzy, you are going to stay well for a long time with such a good mommy and vet!

Our dog Henry had heart failure and was on meds. The meds gave us precious time with him. Wishing you the best.

Such a good puppy! My dear lab had that, plus lung cancer, and neither were caught in time for real treatment. I'm so thankful that you and your vet have been on top of things so you may share a longer time together, Mommy and child!

Bless you!

Darn! The good thing is you got it early - you will give him medicine - you'll do exactly what the doctor says - and you can live a long time with it.

I'm sorry though - I know it hurts.

I'm so sorry to hear about your congestive heart failure, that's too bad. But luckily, it was caught early and modern medicine can do so many things these days! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Gizzy you have a wonderful Mommy who loves you so much and is very wise to hide the pills. I've never heard of those pill pockets before. Be a goodie and take your pills and be well. Much love, Linda

DEAR GIZZY,
GIVE YOUR MOMMIE A HUG AND I AM SO VERY GLAD YOU WERE A GOOD BOY AT THE VETS. X-RAYS CAN BE SCAREY SOMETIMES BUT YOU KNEW THE DR. WAS TRYING TO HELP YOU.
I AM SO VERY GLAD YOU ARE ABLE TO TAKE MEDICINE AND YOU WILL FEEL BETTER REAL SOON.
DORIS, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW THIS BUT IF THE VET WRITES A PRESCRIPTION YOU CAN GET GIZZY'S MEDS FILLED AT WAL-MART. SAMMY, OUR SCHNAUZNER IS ON AN ANTIBIOTIC EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE AND IT IS ONE ON THEIR 4.00 LIST.....WHEN THE MED COMES OUT AND YOU LOOK AT THE LABEL....IT SAYS....SAMMY: NON-HUMAN......I TOLD THE PHARMACIST THAT SAMMY IS MORE HUMAN THAN MOST PEOPLE BUT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THEY CAN GET THEIR PETS MEDICINE AT WAL MART PHARMACY....I WOULD CERTAINLY CHECK AND SEE IF IT IS CHEAPER FOR YOU.
STAY COOL......IT IS SO VERY HOT HERE EVEN AT 10 PM AT NIGHT.
LOVE AND HUGS

Dear Doris, I am sorry Gizzy is showing some heart trouble. It's so hard when our furry friends are not as well as we'd like them to be. I hope you are holding up ok!
