Being forced to spend so much time indoors, Gizzy and I have taken up the study of botany - well, on a tiny scale. My only indoor plant, the sparse and neglected rubber tree plant - came to me from a neighbor for rehabilitation. Sadly, a baby tree has fallen and Gizzy looks concerned.

Summer heat and humidity is doing us in (literally!) We went for a walk yesterday morning and were melting the whole time...very uncomfortable...feels the same at 7 am as at 3 pm..
Can you say: U-n-c-l-e ? Wew! Only 3 more months to go! Hurry up, summer, go away now! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Just a quick hello to wish you a happy weekend - whatever you do. We are staying indoors and cool. I overslept, so we'll have to try to go to the park again tomorrow morning.

For those of you that don't know, I did something to my computer by downloading a security program and now I can't sign into my google account, meaning, I can't get into blogger and gmail. I can still look at my (and everyone's) blogs and can only leave comments if I can leave them anonymously...not every blog has that option.

So, till I get this fixed one way or another, I will be posting through Flickr and wish you all a happy weekend and stay cool!

I have a virus and am no longer able to access blogger...I also have problems with my gmail account and don't want to use it anymore. I think we got a virus! I will periodically check in from the library, but I cannot post any photos from there.

I will announce the winner of my July Giveaway publicly as soon as I can, but I will e-mail the winner directly tomorrow!

I'm sorry for this and I will miss you guys, but this is what's happening and I have to make due with what I have until I can either fix this problem or get a new tower.

In the kitchen with blueberries and figs

First of all, thank you so much everyone, for your encouraging words and condolences on the loss of my cat, Middi. Her absence has definitely left an empty spot in my heart and home. Your kindness is overwhelming.

I had to figure out what to do with the blueberries and figs I have been picking. So, I decided to make refrigerator jam.

Regrettably, it did not thicken enough, so now I have blueberry-fig sauce to pour over pankaces or ice cream. It tastes delishious!

Meanwhile, Gizzy is supervising, watching every move I make:

Next, I baked a fig cake by lining a 9" cake pan with yeast dough and then layering it with halfed figs, like this:

Then, I covered it with Streusel topping:

About 35 minutes later, it was bubbling hot and ready to come out of the oven:

That night, I had coffee and fig cake for dinner (which tasted just like grandma's plum cake)

 

and cucumber-string bean vegetable salad for dessert

 Look who's been chewing on his paws:

Covering his paws with preemie socks seems to help him quit chewing on himself.

Farewell to Middi
