I said to the young man, I wonder what he was doing sitting right here and the man speculated that someone was probably trying to catch him and kill him (no surprise as people here eat just about anything!) and as the turtle went back down to the creek, I thanked the young stranger for helping me and I moseyed on home realizing that I was only wearing my flip flops and standing rather close to that turtle not knowing how fast he could run: "He could a bit my toe right off!"

Since so many of you expressed an interest in my silly rooster potholder, I would like to propose the following consolation:
a) I will offer this rooster to those that entered my giveaway at 1/2 price plus shipping OR
b) I can send you the link to the pattern I used (plus my alterations) if you want to make it yourself.
I know that a lot of you really, really wanted it - some even clucked for it.
NOTE: Please, if you want it for 1/2 price, be sure and contact me within the next four (4) weeks because I anticipate being really, really busy once October rolls around.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS to the winner!
I'm already contemplating my Giveaway for next month!

My boy's sleeping his life away! We do get up at 6 am every morning and walk, but this morning, especially, after just a few feet, I was soaking wet. I've been bringing a towel with me and we don't even walk very fast. Heck, today, Gizzy didn't walk but a few feet and then wanted to get back up on the rollator/walker so I could push him around the lake, which he did enjoy!
We are so ready for Autumn!

Here in South Georgia, especially, we have all sorts of bugs since many seem to thrive in this hot and humid climate. In spite of all the rain we've been having, I'm glad to see not as many mosquitoes this year like I had feared. What I do notice, however, is a large dragonfly population, dancing and looking quite content with life.
This newspaper article, written by Dean Fosdick, states that "many bug species are hired guns, available from mail-order suppliers or nurseries for combating short, but fierce, pest outbreaks on chemical-free properties." I'm happy to read about an overall concern for chemicals and overly used pesticides. I think it would serve us well to think twice when reaching for the insecticide by trying to find alternative ways to keep bug free.
I'm especially glad to see this article because it indicates that people are aware and concerned about the overuse of chemicals and that we all need to cut back in order to keep our environment healthy, which will undoubtedly benefit our disappearing hone bees as well.

I filled the pot with mostly beans to give it weight and stability. It could be used as a paperweight or make a great plant for your office or desk.
I sewed on a little bird bead that is made from bone. I purchased it earlier this year at the Cherokee Indian Powwow. I think it adds a South Western flair to this item, don't you?

I sewed a little ladybug on the cactus for style and luck. The glass cup can hold extra pins, small buttons or sewing novelties.
This item is available for sale in my Etsy shop:

I've been a really good girl this year - honest! Ask Gizzy! (dogs don't lie)
I thought I'd start wishing early and maybe, if I'm lucky, I can go caroling with my accordion this year...
